Sam Lemann “Swinging
the Blues” A workshop for guitarists who want to expand their improvisation capabilities over 12 bar blues and other related progressions. Especially suited to intermediate to advanced players who perhaps feel stuck in the blues scale and want to incorporate some more swing/jazz style harmony and phrasing into their sound. We will look at soloing ideas for the many different blues progressions - from the simplest 3 chord 12 bar to “Coltrane changes” and combining the simplicity and character of the blues scale with sweeter sound of major scales - and dare I say modes! If you like the swinging bluesy sounds of players like Charlie Christian, Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery and T Bone Walker, this (as they say!) is the workshop for you. Chord Charts and simple notation examples will be handed out in the workshop A good knowledge of basic and bar chords and some experience using major and blues scales required - note reading experience is not essential.
